Establishing a forum dedicated to carbon farming Research and Innovation (R&I) within the CARBONICA platform represents a significant initiative to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and community building across various regions and expertise.
This forum is envisioned as an online space that gathers experts from all three Widening Countries (Cyprus, Greece, and North Macedonia) to pool their knowledge, experiences, and insights regarding carbon farming. It transcends geographical boundaries, encouraging participation from local experts and diaspora communities, fostering a diverse and global perspective on the subject.
At its core, this space is inclusive and inviting, welcoming project partners, stakeholders (such as farmers, researchers, policymakers, and environmentalists), and individuals enthusiastic about contributing to climate-resilient agriculture and carbon farming innovations.
EU Frameworks and policies relevant to carbon farming
Quote from eratosthenes-1 on October 29, 2024, 3:11 pmThe European Commission is currently working on introducing the Soil Monitoring Law. The Directive aims at providing a harmonized definition of soil health and to put in place a comprehensive and coherent monitoring framework for sustainable soil management. Soil organic carbon is among the 11 descriptors for soil health assessment.
Another recent initiative aiming to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and promote sustainable practices is the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF). This framework supports the EU Green Deal goal of achieving Carbon neutrality by 2050. CRCF establishes a reliable certification system, creating market incentives for carbon farming practices, allowing farmers and landowners to generate income.
In the this section we are going to analyze some of these initiatives that follow carbon farming and explain their effects on our lands.
