The CARBONICA project has been making a significant impact across Europe, participating in various presentations and workshops that spotlight its innovative work in carbon farming and sustainable agriculture. Below, we highlight some of the key events where the project has been presented, including its involvement in scientific forums, seminars, and workshops.
- Goce Delčev University, AGFutura Technologies at the 4th Scientific Conference on Agriscience and Practice, Štip, North Macedonia, June 13, 2024
The CARBONICA project was showcased at the 4th Scientific Conference on Agriscience and Practice at Goce Delčev University in Štip, North Macedonia. The conference focused on precision agriculture, with AgFutura’s Blagoja Mukanov, M.Sc. sharing his insights on the significant role that digital technologies can play in agriculture in general and, more specifically, on their importance for the agricultural sector in South Eastern Europe.
- ScientAct at geoENV2024 in Chania, Crete (June 19–21, 2024) and the International Plant Protection Congress in Athens, Greece (July 1–4, 2024).
ScientAct participated in the International Plant Protection Congress in Athens, showcasing the CARBONICA project with banners and flyers to raise awareness of its objectives. Additionally, ScientAct participated as a sponsor at GeoENV2024 in Heraklion, Crete, showcasing the project and disseminating CARBONICA’s information materials, taking advantage of the opportunity to promote CARBONICA’s goals and engage with the stakeholder community.

ECoE presented research on organic carbon soil prediction in agricultural lands using remote sensing at the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) IGARSS 2024 conference in Athens, under the framework of the CARBONICA project.

- CARBONICA, represented by Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis, participated in the MEDRIN-SCERIN Workshop under NASA Networks, held in Chania, Greece, in July 2024.
- PSK (PanagrotikosSyndesmosKyprou) participated in the Festival of Agricultural Civilization, Lefkosia, Cyprus, October 12-13, 2024
The Pan-Agricultural Association of Cyprus participated in the 8th Festival of Agricultural Civilization in Lefkosia, promoting CARBONICA’s innovative tools and practices to local stakeholders, such as farmers, citizens, local authorities, governmental bodies, etc.
i-BEC (Interbalkan Environment Center) at COST Connect, October, Brussels, Belgium 17–18, 2024
Dr. Paraskevi Chantzi, Research Coordinator at i-BEC, presented the CARBONICA project and its key outcomes at the COST Connect event in Brussels. The event centered on critical agricultural topics such as sustainability, food security, and climate change.
- Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy, at the ForOaks Workshop, Xanthi, Greece, December 9, 2024
The CARBONICA project was featured at the ForOaks Workshop in Xanthi, Greece represented by the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy. The workshop was focused on monitoring adaptation and carbon storage in oak forests and emphasized the role of carbon farming in addressing climate change.
- RFF (reframe.food) at the AgriFood Forum 2024, 2nd COALition Hubs Seminar, Coordinators Day, and CREDIBLE EU project focus group.
Grigoris Chatzikostas, CARBONICA’s Coordinator, participated in the AgriFood Forum 2024 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The forum focused on Carbon farming and rethinking agriculture for resilience and sustainability in the face of climate change and food security challenges and took place in November 20, 2024.
In addition, Mr. Chatzikostas had the opportunity to share insights and experiences at the Excellence Hubs Coordinators’ Day in Brussels. The intend of the two-day event was to inspire and support the new Excellence Hubs Projects on their path to success. As such, the floor was given to CARBONICA as a Project which showcases efficient and successful management practices, encouraging others to adopt similar approaches.
- George Papapostolou, CARBONICA’s Project Manager, presented CARBONICA at the 2nd COALition Hubs Seminar on innovative farming methods and carbon farming at CERTH in Ptolemaida, Greece, highlighting its role in sustainable agriculture.
Lastly, the Project Manager also had the opportunity to delivere a presentation on the project’s regional approach to Carbon Farming and the CARBONICA project’s process, during CREDIBLE’s Focus Group 1.5, titled “Developing fit-for-region carbon farming approaches” on September 09, 2024.
In all, CARBONICA has been at the forefront of promoting carbon farming and sustainable agriculture across Europe. By participating in key conferences, workshops, and forums, the project has not only shared its insights but also sparked meaningful conversations and collaborations. It has shared its insights on how an Excellence Hub project can effectively achieve its mission and has contributed to the overall discussion on the unique role that Carbon Farming has to play in transitioning to low-carbon agricultural systems across the Union.
