The 6th Online Roundtable Discussion on “Regenerative agriculture and carbon farming: From traditional approaches to recent advances”, organised by Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence (ECoE), is scheduled to take place on 19 June 2025, from 11:00 to 13:00 (EEST).
This event will bring together experts, researchers, and thought leaders from various fields to engage in a stimulating exchange of ideas and insights.
Our speakers and panellists will share their expertise and unique perspectives on a range of important topics. Access the agenda and meet our distinguished speakers, who will share their expertise, experiences, and insights on the recent advances in carbon farming:
Dr. Michalis Christoforou, Special Teaching Staff, Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science, CUT
Dr. Michalis Christoforou is currently a special teaching staff at the Department of Agricultural science, Biotechnology and Food science of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). He received his B.Sc. in Plant Protection from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Greece, an M.Sc. in Horticulture from the University of Reading, U.K, an MSc in Geographical Information Systems and Geospatial technologies from CUT and a PhD in Plant Pathology – Nematology from CUT. From 2008 until now, he was working as a Special Scientist and a Research Fellow at CUT and he is an active member of Agricultural Microbiology Lab and the Geodesy Lab. In Carbonica Project, he is leading the CARBONICA Academy development.
Dr. Anastasios Tsaousis – Reader in Molecular and Evolutionary Parasitology, School of Biosciences, University of Kent
Dr. Anastasios D. Tsaousis is Reader in Molecular and Evolutionary Parasitology at the University of Kent, with a background in soil science (Postdoc, University of Saskatchewan) and molecular cell evolution (PhD, Newcastle University). He is the founder of AgrosBiome, a company dedicated to demystifying regenerative agriculture for healthier, climate-smart farming. Through AgrosBiome, Dr. Tsaousis works hand-in-hand with farmers to design regenerative practices that enhance soil health, generate verifiable carbon credits, and reduce methane emissions. His research on biochar–microbial interactions underpins on-farm trials across the UK, demonstrating pathways to accelerate carbon sequestration while boosting productivity.

He currently serves at the Greek Managing Authority for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan 2021–2027, where he represents Greece in CAP Committees and works closely with DG AGRI on the implementation and amendment of the Strategic Plan. With more than two decades of experience, Dr. Karavas has held key leadership and advisory roles in national agencies and has contributed significantly to the planning and execution of biodiversity strategies, Natura 2000 site management, and environmental monitoring at both national and EU levels.
Aggelos Zacharis, Agronomist, & Ioannis Zacharis, Chemist
Aggelos and Ioannis Zacharis are organic farmers engaged in olive, vineyard, and almond cultivation. Aggelos is an agronomist and Ioannis a chemist, and they have both joined the New Farmers Program in 2014 and 2021 respectively. Since then, they have been active in sustainable agriculture, with all crops certified organic under the GR-BIO-12 Q-CERT system, while also integrating state-of-the-art technology into their farming practices.
Filip Kamchev, Agronomist – Enologist
Filip Kamchev is a graduate agronomist with a specialization in Enology from the Faculty of Agriculture in Štip, North Macedonia. He currently works as a professional enologist and is the owner of the family-run winery Kievo, where an integrated approach to grape cultivation and wine production is practiced. The winery manages 7 hectares of vineyards, cultivating Riesling and Vranec, and operates an additional 20 hectares of arable land dedicated to cereal crops. Mr. Kamchev is strongly committed to sustainable agriculture, with a particular focus on implementing carbon farming practices and technologies that aim to reduce carbon emissions and enhance soil health.
