The 4th Online Roundtable Discussion on “Nature-Based Solutions Supporting Insetting Business Models for Climate Change Adaptation”, organised by Interbalkan Environment Center, is scheduled to take place on 29 April 2025, from 11:00 to 13:00 (GMT+3).
This event will bring together experts, researchers, and thought leaders from various fields to engage in a stimulating exchange of ideas and insights.
Our speakers and panellists will share their expertise and unique perspectives on a range of important topics — from establishing the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Regulation within national innovation ecosystems, to understanding how Carbon Markets operate across Europe and beyond.

Daphne Kitsou | Agronomist, MSci, Interbalkan Environment Centre
Daphne Kitsou studied at the Agricultural University of Athens in the Department of Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Engineering, specialising in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry. She is currently a PhD candidate at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
She serves as a Scientific Associate at the Interbalkan Environment Centre.
Her expertise lies in carbon cycle management and accounting, carbon farming, Life Cycle Assessment, field data collection and processing, the evaluation of agricultural management practices, and the use of Remote Sensing tools for modelling purposes.
She has participated in European research projects under the Horizon programme, focusing on soil-climate zone mapping, the development of methodologies for the measurement and reduction of the carbon footprint, and the validation of tools and practices for carbon farming.
George Papapostolou | Project Manager reframe.food
George Papapostolou is an Economist and Project and Financial Project Manager in reframe.food. He holds a Bsc in International and European Economic Studies and an MA in regional Politics and Economics, both from the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. As a consultant, he has worked extensively in bilateral and transnational projects specializing in breaching the gap between academic and business sector, with a focus in regional cooperation. Having served as Financial Officer in the JS of the GR-MK IPA CBC Programme he has an extensive experience on the implementation of european-funded projects and in evaluation and audit processes, while as a private consultant, he has worked extensively in securing funds for innovation-driven SMEs.


- Nikos Vellis | Research Consultant at Proba
Nikos Vellis is currently working as a Research Consultant at Proba in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
With a background in agronomy and environmental sciences, his work primarily focuses on greenhouse gas (GHG) projects aimed at reducing nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions from agricultural fields through the application of Enhanced Efficiency Fertiliser technologies.
At Proba, he also works on converting these emission reductions into verified, tradable Impact Units (carbon credits), thereby supporting downstream organisations in achieving their Scope 3 emissions targets through insetting.
This process ensures compliance with global standards such as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
Christos Stamatis- CEO, Stevia Hellas Coop Mechanical Engineer, Msc in Renewable Energy Sources.
Christos Stamatis, MSc Mechanical Engineer, is a successful entrepreneur and founder of two innovative startups of the Agri -Food Sector.
He has a strong professional background in renewable energy with extensive experience in international projects.
Over the past 10 years, he has been developing innovative solutions for the agri-food sector while he has already established a successful business in renewable energy resources as well as the first agricultural cooperative that produces stevia (Stevia Hellas Coop) in Europe and also the startup mermix.gr, an equipment and farm management system.


Michalis Omirou | Agricultural Research Officer at the Agricultural Research Institute of Cyprus
Dr. Michalis Omirou is an Agricultural Research Officer at the Agricultural Research Institute of Cyprus, specializing in agrobiotechnology. He holds a PhD in Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Engineering from the Agricultural University of Athens, along with MSc and BSc degrees from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research focuses on the environmental fate of agrochemicals, soil microbial ecology, plant growth-promoting microorganisms, and biotechnological applications in sustainable agriculture. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed studies and participated in various EU and national research projects related to biofumigation, biobeds, and climate-resilient agricultureΘ.
Aleksandra Martinovska | Professor in Agricultural Economics at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopjen
Aleksandra Martinovska Stojcheska is full Professor in Agricultural Economics at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She is involved in various national and international research and applicative activities, also leading regional studies in topics such as agricultural policy, green economy and recently climate change adaptation in agriculture in the Western Balkan countries. She is member of the National Council for Higher Education and Research; National Liaison to the European Association of Agricultural Economics; Key expert in the National Convention for the EU – MK; and coordinator of the national EDP Smart Specialisation S3 domain on Smart agriculture and food with higher value added.
