The meeting brought together representatives holding key regional policy and agricultural governance roles, including the Head of the Department for Regional Policy Planning, the Director General of Agricultural Economics & Veterinary, the Senior Head of the Planning Department within the Directorate of Agricultural Economy, and a Senior Manager of the Directorate of Agricultural Economy.
The meeting created a focused space for dialogue between CARBONICA and actors from the Greek regional innovation ecosystem, with discussions centred on the enabling conditions needed to strengthen the uptake of carbon farming and sustainable agricultural practices at regional level.
Key topics included the positioning of carbon farming within the wider R&I and regional policy landscape, the practical barriers faced by farmers and other ecosystem actors, opportunities for regional support and capacity building, and the potential links between carbon farming, innovation priorities and available funding mechanisms.
Particular attention was given to identifying where action can realistically be taken at regional level, where stronger coordination between actors is needed, and which issues require further attention at national policy level.
The discussion forms part of CARBONICA’s wider policy engagement activities, which aim to co-create, discuss and validate evidence-based policy recommendations together with policymakers and other Quadruple Helix stakeholders across Greece, Cyprus and North Macedonia.
These insights will contribute directly to the formulation of CARBONICA’s final policy recommendations for supporting more resilient, innovative and sustainable agricultural systems.
