The CARBONICA EU project has recently launched its Acceleration Programme, a major milestone in its mission to promote sustainable agricultural practices across Southeast Europe. As part of the broader Horizon-funded initiative, CARBONICA is establishing an Excellence Hub that connects the innovation ecosystems of Cyprus, Greece, and North Macedonia. By bringing together researchers, industry players, policy makers, and civil society organisations, the project seeks to accelerate the transition toward carbon farming and climate-resilient agricultural production.

With a strong emphasis on reducing the carbon footprint of farming activities, CARBONICA is aligning regional research strategies, offering digital tools, and providing training opportunities to support the development of a new, sustainable agri-food value chain. The Acceleration Programme is designed to empower start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) actively contributing to this transformation. Through targeted support, the programme aims to help 30 selected applicants—10 of each involved country—enhance their business models, improve their entrepreneurial skills, and strengthen their ability to pitch innovative solutions to investors.
Participants in the programme will benefit from personalised mentorship, access to expert-led training modules, and hands-on guidance in carbon farming implementation and certification processes. Delivered through CARBONICA’s digital platforms—the CARBONICA Academy and BizDevelop—this support is intended to prepare each start-up or SME for commercial success and international expansion. In the final stage of the programme, the selected participants will develop professional pitch decks tailored for investor engagement, as part of CARBONICA’s broader commercialisation strategy.
Applications are open to all eligible start-ups and SMEs legally operating in Cyprus, Greece, or North Macedonia and working within the agri-food value chain. The application window will remain open until 30 May 2025. This is a unique opportunity for ag-tech innovators and sustainability-driven entrepreneurs to position themselves at the forefront of the carbon farming movement in Europe.
