From Wednesday, August 7th to Friday, August 9th, 2024, a three-day laboratory and field training was conducted at\u00a0 i-BEC<\/a><\/span>‘<\/span><\/a>s research facility. Paraskevi Chantzi and Galanis Georgios, Research Coordinators for CARBONICA, co-created a comprehensive agenda on lab analysis and soil sampling training.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Laboratory analysis<\/h4>

A comprehensive laboratory analysis training session occurred from Wednesday to Thursday. Under the guidance of i-BEC’s Executive Director Maria Giortsou, i-BEC\u2019s chemists, Dimitris Goutzikostas and Vasilis Rousonikolos led the training sessions. They provided in-depth training on soil sampling analysis to our partners<\/strong> from the University Goce Delchev Shtip<\/a> <\/span>(UGD)<\/span>, AgFutura Technologies,<\/a><\/span> (AGFT), \u03a4\u03b5\u03c7\u03bd\u03bf\u03bb\u03bf\u03b3\u03b9\u03ba\u03cc \u03a0\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03c0\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u03ae\u03bc\u03b9\u03bf \u039a\u03cd\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c5 \u00a0<\/span><\/a>(CUT<\/span>)<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 and the Eratosthenes Center of Excellence<\/a><\/span> (ECoE).<\/p>

The training focused on methodologies for determining soil organic carbon and other key physicochemical properties.<\/strong> The laboratory training concluded with a detailed presentation highlighting the soil characteristics that are vital for carbon sequestration and certification processes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Soil sampling and carbon footprint measurement<\/h4>

Following the successful laboratory training, the program continued on Friday. Daphne Kitsou, Georgia\u00a0 Kostaki, and Thodoris Akritidis,\u00a0 scientific partners from i-BEC, conducted an all-encompassing training session on soil sampling and carbon footprint measurement.<\/strong> They introduced our partners UGD, AGFT, and ECoE to the Carbonica Field Diagnostic Toolbox. Daphne Kitsou explained in detail the methodology, sampling protocols, and the technology behind the Toolbox.<\/p>

During the training days, participants were trained on using the Carbonica Field Diagnostic Toolbox<\/strong> for field sampling and measurement. They also learned how the collected data are vital for further analysis in the lab, linking practical fieldwork directly with advanced laboratory processes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This hands-on experience demonstrated how the Carbonica EU Toolbox supports the MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) system,<\/strong> which is essential for carbon farming certification.
